Day 240 - Disappointment.

So today I had my appointment to get my braces off, but my orthodontist decided that my bite had reopened a bit in the front and that he wouldn't take them off today :( needless to say I began crying in his office. embarrassing right? but i couldn't help it. I've had these things on for 3 years and I just want to keep moving forward in my treatment. I have had so much pain lately in my jaw and so I just wanted my braces off so I can begin treatment to stabilize the pain.

I guess I just got so excited for today to finally get them off and just was devastated that it didn't happen :( I head back to my orthodontist in a week and they'll check on how my mouth is and we'll go from there.

After I got the devastating news they adjusted my braces. I only have a wire on my top 4 front teeth and my bottom 4 front teeth. then i wear my finishing elastics as i showed in a previous post that lace my whole mouth together to try to close the front of my bite. then they took a panoramic X-ray of my mouth and he said he is going to look at my bones and see if more degeneration occurred and yeah.

those were taken before i got the bad news…..

on the plus side we had a snow day today and so i didn't have to go to school… more time to myself to be sad? :(

at least the snow is pretty!
sigh. I just want it to end :( I guess i'll update when i know more…. until then I'm going to go sulk about my braces still being on. next time i won't get my hopes up. disappointment sucks. take care all

  1. 8 months and still having braces on? Oh God... I'm scared. Been having them for 4 years already, and just had surgery... Do you reckon the problem might be your tongue? Mine is.

    1. yeah i think my tongue definitely plays a role… i don't really know how to fix it though….. most people get theirs off sooner than i do! so hopefully yours get off soonish and that all is well :)

  2. I'm so sorry! That really really really stinks, but on the bright side, at least your orthodontist is trying to make your bite ABSOLUTELY perfect!!

  3. I am so sorry Katie! I totally understand how you feel. I only got my top ones off a month ago, when I thought I was getting both off. I was so disappointed. BUT we have been through sooo much and if it means braces on for another month or two so you have perfect teeth, and an amazing bite it is totally worth it! How terrible would it be to get them off and 3 months later need to put them back on? Stay strong my jaw surgery friend! I hope the pain in your jaw goes away. Are you experiencing clicking? or popping? I have been having some weird popping (not like before surgery) when I eat chewy foods… SO annoying. However, someone mentioned to drink more water and that it can help… and it has. I am also starting acupuncture in two months to help relax the muscles. Hope you have an amazing day!

    1. aww thank you so much :) yeah I'm definitely experiencing lots of popping/clicking in my left jaw joint that i never had before surgery. you're right! it is very annoying. I have another appt on tuesday for my orthodontist to check on my teeth again, so I'm sure ill update shortly after that! logically i agree with you and my orthodontist about keeping them on, it just sucks getting my hopes up, which i know you can relate to :) yay for us fellow jaw surgery buddies understanding… i hope everything is going super well with you!! best of luck with the acupuncture too
